THE CLAREMONT NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION marks the end of another year and the successful 19th     (can you believe it?) annual street fair and flea market, held on June 7th. The CNA Street Fair is the longest lived street fair event in the South End and perhaps in the City. While other neighborhood associations have folded tents, the enthusiasm of CNA for these gatherings continues!

Thanks to all the neighbors who contributed to make the day another great community event. Kudos to Chris Roche, Reed Scranton, David Pimenta, Roberta Benjamin, Karen and Giles Bommart, Barbara Peck, Cary Erdman, Franco Campanella and our master bake sale maven Rebecca Wetteman, among many others.

The Claremont Neighborhood Association (CNA) was founded in 1945 and is the second oldest neighborhood association in the South End, and one of the oldest in Boston.

It consists of the 14 blocks bounded by West Newton Street, Camden Street, Southwest Corridor Park and the median of Tremont Street.

Today, residents of the Claremont neighborhood reflect a microcosm of the diversity of Boston: single, married, old, young, gay, straight, ethnically diverse, students, professionals and retired.

Lion

This proud lion was carved from a single block of granite in 1872 to guard the townhouse home of Orren Strong Sanders, M.D. Dr. Sanders was known for his involvement in local charities. In fact, he is the founder of Home for Little Wanderers, a vibrant charity that still exists today.
