Uptown Espresso
Faye Faroughi and Amir Dehestani
Set just above eye-level on the parlor floor of this great corner building is the glass-fronted Uptown Espresso, opened in October 2005. Climb the stairs at 563 Columbus Avenue, and bear right through a glass door into a beautifully decorated and appointed café and imagine yourself in Florence or Paris. The antique Italian espresso machines whirs as the friendly staff serve up frothy café mochas and café au laits (as well as standard fare coffees to go), plus sumptuous home-made pastries, scones, biscotti, pannini, soups and salads, as well as breakfast sandwiches. The spot also now has a beer and wine license.
“My dream”, says Faye, “was to do create a welcoming and calm spot to linger and relax in a busy, vibrant urban neighborhood. I was this close to closing on a place in Watertown Center when I happened on this space, and once I saw the solarium, and the antique fireplace… well, it couldn’t be more perfectly my dream location.”
When asked what she likes best about the spot, she doesn’t hesitate, “this neighborhood … the people here are so close and friendly and yet so different. People call each other by their first names. One of my employees, who lives in the Back Bay, says the friendliness here makes it feel she’s traveled to a completely different city.”
So drop by and linger over a cappuccino or a glass of winein our newest neighborhood spot and give Faye and brother Amir a warm welcome.
